The reasons people use boxed haircolor month after month are valid: it’s cheap, it’s fast, it’s readily available at every grocery store and drugstore in town. You can do it in your own bathroom and you can do it while you’re wearing your pajamas, if you want. They have beautiful celebrities with fabulous hair who say they use it too! When you finish coloring your hair with boxed color, you look in the mirror and think, “It looks fine!”.

And that may be true, at first. However, you may be doing more harm to your hair than you realize when you reach for the box. One of the main ingredients in every box of color is ammonia. They use it so that “one size fits all” box can color a huge array of different hair colors and textures. Unfortunately, those high levels of ammonia are harmful to your hair and as a lot of you know, can cause painful scalp irritation.

Another disadvantage to boxed color is the size of the dye molecules they use. They are larger, because they have to fit so many different types of hair. These larger dye molecules cannot penetrate the hair shaft very well, which means your box color can look “off” and will fade much faster than a salon color will.

The pictures they use on those boxes are also misleading. Your hair is not going to look exactly like they promise. Also...those celebrities they use in the commercials and advertisements? They are not using that boxed color on their hair.

When you color your own hair, it’s virtually impossible to place the color exactly where it needs to be. This means that after repeated applications of boxed color, your hair will have darker ends and be lighter at the scalp area. Also, many of the boxed colors contain metallic dye, which makes your hair incompatible with other hair colors in the future or until you end up having to cut all the color off. Not exactly a best-case scenario, right?

At the Beauty Lab, we care about your hair. Our stylists have spent years of training on the chemistry of hair color and the effect it has on the hair. We go through intense education on techniques, products and specific formulations and we know just what your hair can (and cannot) handle.

Your hair is our highest priority. We use Davines hair color, which is a high-end brand made with only the finest ingredients. We have multiple options to cover every need: Low Ammonia, No Ammonia, Permanent Color, Demi-Permanent and Semi-Permanent.

Davines uses a high concentration of color molecules in each and every tube of color. This leads to beautiful, shiny conditioned hair and a shade that will last much longer than anything you can get in a box. Another bonus? The milk proteins they use are extra-gentle on your scalp. No more irritation!

What are you waiting for? Call the Beauty Lab today and book an appointment. We will discuss your wants and needs with you and will give you the gorgeous haircolor you deserve. After all, aren’t you worth it? We think you are.
